• GRAPE VARIETY
Pinot Grigio minimum 85%
Pinot Grigio boasts an important parent: it is, in fact, a bud mutation of Pinot Noir. Its origins can be traced back to Germany and France. Its characteristic color, gray tending towards pink, gives rise to wines with a coppery hue. In Italy, it seems to have been imported from Burgundy by General Sambuy for his vineyards in the province of Como. From there, it slowly spread to the three Venices and Lombardy. Only in recent decades has it reached other Italian wine regions.
• COLOR
Coppery
• GROWING AREA
Hills of Chieti – Slopes of the Maiella at an altitude of about 450m above sea level.
• IN THE VINEYARD
Grown on Abruzzo pergola in soils exposed to the south – southeast, tending to be calcareous and rich in skeleton. Vineyard management follows the organic production method Reg. (EC) No. 834/2007.
• HARVEST
Hand-harvested in 20 kg crates in early September to maintain its rather high acidity and achieve a fairly uniform skin coloration that imparts the typical “onion skin” hue to the wine.
• IN THE CELLAR
Fermentation with indigenous yeasts is conducted at controlled temperatures. The original color, coppery/rosé, is preserved as the winery does not use decolorizing carbon on this wine.
• AGING
Maturation in tank on the fine lees that impart complex and significant tones to the wine.
• SENSORY CHARACTERISTICS
Wine with a coppery color and pink reflections linked to the vintage and the ripeness of the grapes. Its bouquet is intense, complex, and floral with fruity notes of red berries such as cherry and sour cherry. On the palate, it is soft and elegant, balanced and very persistent. The finish is long and fruity.
